Development of NY Model of the Lincoln Tunnel Corridor

New York, NY

Project Objective:
Creation of a detailed simulation model for both vehicular and pedestrian traffic

This project involved the creation of a detailed simulation model representing both vehicular and pedestrian traffic within the west side of midtown Manhattan. The model encompasses 96 intersections from 8th Avenue to 12th Avenue between W. 27th and W. 45th Streets including the Port Authority Bus Terminal and Lincoln Tunnel. The model was calibrated and validated against actual traffic conditions for weekday AM peak, PM peak and Sunday peak periods. Over 100 individuals collected data simultaneously over several days to develop this model. KLD integrated this model of the Manhattan portion of the Lincoln Tunnel area with a model of the New Jersey approaches to the tunnel. This allows the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to perform detailed simulation analyses of the entire bi‐state corridor using VISSIM. This project was completed in 2006.
